Snowman Diorama Ornaments

Snowman Diorama Ornaments
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool (Nouveau Denim and Aran White)
Needles: 6.5mm Double pointed needles (Bamboo)
Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sleepykins/snowman-diorama-ornament I made a couple of these cuties for the boys at Christmas. I’m pleased with how they turned out. I was slightly intimidated with the pattern because it called for so many small pieces, but in the end it came together quite well. A couple of modifications: I used embroidery thread (and some french loops) to make the eyes and button. I also used some scraps of felt for the scarves (I didn’t have any yarn in the right weight/colour) and I used some felted roving for the noses. Actually, I just took some orange roving, rolled in in the palm of my hand with a bit of soap and water, and then once it dried I cut it right in half to have two cones with pointed ends. Worked perfectly. Progress shot! The embroidery makes it special, for me. Those boys will be cousins for life, and I love that…

Knitting Needle Case

Image
I've been growing more and more frustrated with the state of my knitting stash. All of my knitting wears (needles, yarn, notions) are tossed into a big box in complete disarray. I scored a mega load of needles and yarn a couple of years ago, but since I have no way of organizing it all, I can't even keep track of what I have.

So I made a knitting needle case. I used this tutorial from loulabelle. It is very easy to follow, has great pictures and detailed instructions, so go over there if you’re thinking of making one for yourself. By the way, I find it completely ironic that my frustration with my knitting stash is what prompted me to sort through all of my SEWING gear! Haha, my sewing stuff is in a worse state than my knitting stuff!! I sifted through my fabric pile, and came up with some complimentary fabrics. This project took me about 2 1/2 hours to complete. Though I was simultaneously wrangling a busy 13-month old  – I’m sure that someone with basic sewing skills and wi…

Kanoko Pants – Completed

Kanoko Pants (Harumidori Designs)
Yarn:  Loops and Threads Impeccable Worsted (Acrylic)
Needles: 4mm 16″ circular
Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sleepykins/kanoko-pants I’m not even going to apologize for taking such a long time to complete these pants (over two months). It’s just the way things go now. I was always a slow knitter, but now with a kid in tow, well, my knitting rate is positively glacial.  I’m just glad I get to indulge in my hobby from time to time. And if projects are completed at the rate of one a season, well, that’s how she goes and it’s fine by me! But back to the pants… I think these pants are SO CUTE! They are knitted from the top down. These pants have actually been completely knitted for a long time, but they stayed at 95% complete for weeks, because I put off the finishing. Finally I got around to folding over the waistband, weaving in the ends, and making the i-cord drawstring. In total, all of that stuff probably took me about 1 1/2 hours. Go figu…

Kanoko Pants – In Progress

I’m knitting everybody!! Hold the presses! Kanoko Pants (Harumidori Designs)
Yarn:  Loops and Threads Impeccable Worsted (Acrylic)
Needles: 4mm 16″ circular Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sleepykins/kanoko-pants I’ve started knitting some pants for my son. They look really cute, and I can’t wait for them to be done. The pattern is very easy, which is good, because I seriously am not in the mind frame to tackle anything intricate. But it’s kind of a little too easy – which means it gets pretty repetitive. Especially the seed stitch; it’s SUPER cute, but is a MAJOR pain to knit. Switching back and forth between purl and knit on every single stitch means that my rows end up taking twice as long to complete. And y’all know I’m a slow knitter to begin with. But it’s nice to have something small and easy to turn to whenever the mood strikes. Which hasn’t been all that often lately, since we were hit with some horribly humid weather. But today there was a break in the heat wave and…
